Online dating is a huge market!  That’s a given!  And, the concerns that the following statistics represent do not bode well for a free people search.  However, a free people search can at least get you started.

According to a recent online dating survey conducted by Online Schools revealssome staggering data regarding men and women who use online datingsites.

The online dating study shows:

1. The US has 40 million users of online dating sites

2. The most popular online dating sites are eHarmony with 20 millionusers and Match.com with 15 million users.

3. Online dating users are 52.4% male and 47.6% female.

4. The online dating industry is over a $1 billion dollar a yearindustry.

5.  In the US, male users of online dating site typically lie aboutage, height and income; while women typically lie about weight, physicalbuild and age.

6. 1 out of 10 online dating users is a scammer.

7. 1 out of 6 sex offenders use online dating sites to meet people.

As a parent, I find the last statistic totally alarming.  It would seem to me that the “dating” services would screen all applicants or participants against existing public databases for sex offenders.  Absent this protection, this provides a perfect example of how an inexpensive annual membership in a paid people search site would be extremely prudent for anyone using the dating services.  On the other hand, a free people search (as contained on this site) will at least let you confirm someone’s name, address, phone number and age.
